You don't but some people clearly do :)

Re-Strikes ( fakes ), it just doesn't sit right with me. Paying people to make them, in years to come they'll be original.

I would advise Spend your hard earned wages on your modern and stay-bright badges and avoid the repro Dross items that haunt our world, welcome to the forum and enjoy the learning process.
Next time you look at a board or box of Repeducion items you may spot some good items by reading entries on the forum, incidentally you can pay more than £90 on modern or Anodised badges. The key is read and purchase good reference books. Sincerely Stephen |
Some of the recently disbanded regimental items are cheap and genuine eg
R G B W ,D & D A good display of cap/collars/s/t etc can be obtained for very little money Example are in my album I gain as much satisfaction from these as the large amounts [4 figures sometimes] that I spend on some items for my main collection David Added a couple of modern line regiments also easy to obtain |
Welcome John! Whether you collect fakes, real ones or driftwood each to their own.
Plus your preference surely means more real ones for me and everyone else after the real McCoy? So surprised at the negativity here. I would say David makes a great point, there are many genuine badges out there that can be had for the same price (or less if lucky) than the fakes. Plus this is a good place to learn as there’s always the chance that £90 badge you think you can’t afford will pop up for far less on eBay or in a junk shop. I guarantee landing such a badge will be a bigger buzz than a dud especially when you know the history behind it. Recently accrued a few duds in a couple lots I bought. They were destined for the bin but if you want them they’re yours (or anyone else that wants them) totally free. There’s a Northamptonshire Yeo, Int Corps, Royal Corps of Signals, Royal Devon Yeo RFA and Shropshire Yeo. Hopefully makes up for your less than warm welcome! Cheers, Luke |
