Please can any Forum Member help me identify this badge. He said it was a "Silver Band" badge - which I doubt. Could be Indian with the I in front. It's a good size, bigger than the average badge. I'd say dead genuine.

No, not that. If IA stretcher bearers wore a badge, and they were cloth arm bands, not brass badges, they would have said 'S.B.' just like the rest of the British and Imperial armies. :)

As far as I know the strecher bearers never had any kind of badge, cloth or metal.

I would be inclined to agree with you. The IA seems to have done far less 'differentiation' by way of armbands and specialist badges than the other Imperial armies.

That said, any badges they did use tended to be the same as or similar to British issue, so no metal 'SB' badges.

Yes, Peter..most IA badges/patches are more or less similar to British army, though in the Indian Volunteer Force badgees there are some unique ones in keeping with local Indian themes..

By WW2 though even the IA seems to have begun sprouting some patches though not as much as their British counterparts..i guess that was because of the massive increase in numbers, units and subunits so some kind of identifying marks were needed, i guess.

The badge does have an 'Indian' look to it so would be nice to know..have asked Ashok Nath..let's see if he can help..
