Hi all.

Attached are the two photos I have of my great grandfather in WWI.

If anybody could give me any idea as to what sort of uniform/badges or any idea of regiment etc that would be great. I don't know anything about his service and my WWI knowledge is rather limited.

His name is Harry Amos and he was born 1891 and died in 1957.

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

Henry

Hello Henry, welcome to the Forum, looking at your Gerat Grandfathers Cap badge I would say he was (R)Army Service Corps, I’m not able to look his details up at the moment hopefully someone can find some information for you

There were a few men named Harry or "H" Amos in the Army Service Corps during WWI.

This may or may not be "the" H Amos, the birth year is about right but other than initial, surname and corps.......

Any little of snippet of information may help - did he or anyone in the family mention that he was a farrier or a sergeant, that he served in Egypt, that he was treated for a toe injury, contracted malaria, rode horses, drove motor vehicles, was Mentioned in Despatches, awarded a Military Medal?
A middle initial?
Such info. may help point to the right man

Hi Gerard / Lee

Thanks for the info. Unfortuntely I don't think anyone ever mentioned what he did during the war and he died before my father was even born.

I'm assuming horses came into it somewhere due to that photograph on the horse in uniform. I also have a pic of him around 1910 tending a horse on a farm.

I don't believe he had a middle name or initial as in my family hisotry research I've not come across it.

His wife was called Eva Maud Amos (formerly Pearson) if that's any help? His father was called Samuel Amos and his mother Mary Ann Amos.

Sadly I don't know much more than this. I attach scans of the back of the previous images in case the number scribble means anything to you.

I also attach the picture of him as a younger man (around 1910) with a horse.

Many thanks for your help

Henry
