I bought this at a local flea market yesterday I think its a pagri flash/patch but I am unsure which regiment it is attributed to. Red lettering very faded on dark blue wool. Any help gratefully received.

Thanks Mark

Almost certainly Queens Royal Regiment, West Surrey. A nice little find and the museum at Clandon Park will be more than happy to help and advise.

It's different than the one currently on offer on Buywyze.

Matti,

Many thanks.

Keith I saw the patch that Buywyze had but it was as you say different.

Mark

Fairly sure that different badges are worn by each battalion,

The museum at Clandon will be most helpful if you enquire.

Queen's Royal Regiment (west Surrey) pagri flash picked up today, and I assume it is more likely to be WWII rather than Boer war or WWI

Jerry,

I think yours is a slouch hat badge, worn in the Far East towards the end of WW2. I think there is one in my album of badges collected at the end of war.

Stephen.

Stephen,

Thanks, that us what I thought was the case all the earlier examples I have seen seem to have larger lettering such ad I showed in the cdv.

This style of Pagri flash also predates ww2 and photos show it in wear between the wars in India.

I believe this flash to have been worn by the 1/4th Bn QRWS (TF):

Yes, I have one of these which came with some stuff belonging to a Queen's soldier who was captured in Singapore.
Cheers,

That pagri flash was worn by a platoon of 2nd Bn Queen's Royal Regiment on the 'Deer Stalker' hat as part of the 1932 - 1934 trials of the experimental pattern serge uniform.

The flash was worn on the right-hand side of the hat which was to replace the Service Dress Cap.

Described and illustrated in British Army Uniforms and Insignia of WW2 by Brian L Davis.

Must be a rare item.

In the pics in Davis's book it looks very similar in shape to the 44 bush hat, though from the description of the wrong fabric.
