A recent purchase, which now that I have it in my hand, I have some doubts about. My other C.E.F. badges are die cast and are much sturdier in construction. This example is die struck. The jewels on the crown are also different from the badges shown in the C.E.F. gallery.

Is this a known variant or should I return it for a refund?

Looks fine to me.

Thank you. Having removed my few other C.E.F. badges from their temporary board, it seems that the badge may have been made in England as only the Canadian made badges have the more solid construction.

Admittedly, I have only a very small sample group to work from.

For the CEF Infantry book we have documented 4 types of this badge. Type1 - silver/WM design overlay, 4 jewels on crown center rib, and - NMM; 4 jewels on crown center rib, smaller ribbon flanking "60", Type2- 5 jewels on crown center rib, larger ribbons flanking "60". Type1 has been found with RJ Inglis markings and Type 2 has been found with Tiptaft markings.

Thank you for the information. If I understand you correctly, my badge is a type 2, (5 jewels on centre rib) and NMM.
