Assistance With Identifying Buttons

Hello All,

We recently acquired some 1840’s military items in a Boston, Mass estate. Within one of the plastic totes containing a 1840’s United States military uniform was this undershirt with these buttons on it. We are unsure if the undershirt is related to the military uniform or not. We would appreciate any assistance in providing us with an estimated date of manufacture, most likely location of manufacture, and any other relevant information.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

It is a high quality button with a generic design (stock design). I think it dates from around mid 1850s. I know chiseling (the 3 shiny dots on the band) was common for civil servant's buttons on full dress. I do not know if it was done on military buttons.

I have attached a low quality, other ranks button, said to be a Militia stock button.
