Has anyone got any decent Potos of the back and front of the Selous Scouts officers silver cap badge

Jeff Mc William 16-06-16 09:08 PM

Hi Loski
Can't help you with your query I'm afraid. Just wondering about your avatar : Do you come from the Falklands ? Regards Jeff

Try posting your request in the South African section general topics. There are a couple of forum members who are fountains of knowledge on these badges.

Hi Jeff
I am indeed from the Falklands I have lived in the UK since 1980, Believe it or not I have quite a few relatives in the islands and I still cant get an FIDF stable belt.

There is one individual stopping you achieving your objective and that is the unbelievably rude individual who allegedly "commands" the FIDF.

Dave.

I dont know if the CO of the FIDF is rude but I have tred emailing the DF asking to purchase a Stable belt to no avail and have asked the relatives who ar in the DF only to be told that they will get in trouble if they loose their stable belts, It seems that the DF controls its kit quite strictly.

I have both the silver Officer's Selous Scouts cap badge and collar dogs in my collection, but have unfortunately broken my desktop computer and have been struggling with a digital camera that won't talk to my ipad and an ipad that posts pictures upside down! Plus, as you may have gathered, I'm a bit of an I.T. biff.
I'm posting this at work, but that won't let me load anything onto my work desktop (blame the security geeks)
I live in Bristol. Are you close? You're welcome to see/handle/photo them if so.
You've seen the incredibly rare Rhodie bits in my "Top 20" photo album?

When I say he is "rude", I refer to his inability to answer emails which are personally sent to him. Not once but on several occasions. A reply to an email enquiry is the very least he could do. On that basis I come to the conclusion that the man is downright rude. Government House provided me with his direct email address which is not available on the website.

Dave.

Hi Loski
The reason I asked is that I stopped off at Stanley in 1965 on the "Kista Dan" on my way to the Antarctic as a Geophysicist for 2 years. I remember the Falkland Islanders made us feel very welcome.
I seem to remember there was a bit of an incident when some Argentinians crash-landed a light aircraft on the golf course (no airport in those days) and claimed their rightful occupation. I think the local "bobby" sorted it out then !
I also remember the "Darwin" supply ship from Montevideo which called once a week and which Mrs Thatcher in her wisdom stopped, thus giving the "green light" to General Galtiera and his merry men. Regards Jeff

Ahh I was born in 65 but I have heard of the Kista Dan did'nt she have a sister ship the kela dan or some such, as a side my dad served on the RRS John Bisco in the early 60s
THE argies landed A DC10 on the racecourse in 65 my dad was a member of the Falkland Islands Defense Force called out along with the Marines of Naval party 8901 to keep them the argies on the aircraft. BTW my mum pushed me up in my pram to have a look at the plane. The RMS Darwin called in the Falklands twice a year I think you are thinking Of the ice patrol ship HMS Endurance that the Thacher Govt decided to scrap that gave the argies the green light to invade in 82.

Well yeah ! my memory doesn't serve me too well I'm afraid, sorry, tho' I do remember the Darwin was stopped for "economic reasons" which didn't help at all !
Yes, the sister ship to the "Kista Dan" was the "Perla Dan" ... tho' there were many other "Dan" ships, eg ; the "Anita Dan" which was sold to Britain in 1967 and renamed "HMS Endurance". Others were :
"Magga Dan", "Erika Dan", "Helga Dan", "Thora Dan" etc, etc. Quite a fleet ! The Danish seamen were, by the way, fantastic blokes. Regards Jeff
