Animal Transport Companies: Dunkirk
Four of these companies 22, 25, 29 and 32 came from India as part of the Royal Indian Army Service Corps (RIASC) and two from Cyprus as part of the Royal Army Service Corps (RASC).
Would any of these Companies have had a specific badge? |
Don't think so. They would be having the standard RIASC or RASC badge for that period.
However in the medals alloted to the RAISC at least there would be a suffix for motor transport (MT) or animal transport (AT) etc and various other sections Eg: 12345 DVR. HAPPY SINGH, RIASC (MT) |

Interestingly in my latest copy of my journal for the Indian Military Historical Soc, there is an article about the Senior Indian officer commanding the RIASC (K6 force) at Dunkirk. Risaldar Major Muhammad Ashraf Khan OBI IOM IDSM.
Him and his men remained in the UK after evacuation for 3 years before returning to India and the Burma front. Two books are recommended Force K6 The Indian Contingent by Chris Kempton and The Indian Contingent, The forgotten Indian Solidiers of Dunkirk by Dr Ghee Bowman Pub 2020. Steve M |
