Picked this up yesterday, looking to identify it. The only reason i bought it was because it looks like maple leafs at the bottom, but may be oak leafs as well.

Looks very much "Canadian" and "Medical" related?

I think those are oak leaves, and that it's not Canadian. Canadian Medical Services badge has no star, and the serpent is on a staff, not an arrow. Canadian Forces Intelligence Services uses a similar star, but not on a blue background.

This badge has been discussed before. I think it is Canadian, but I cannot remember what it is. I do not believe it is military.

Snake going up an arrow? Smacks of something to do with shooting.... sniper'ish.... but the star behind would mean to the heavens....or the points on the compass.....Intelligence? Maple leaves and EIIR Crown = Canadian

This was discussed previously. There are at least three variations of this badge. Concensus at the time was that it is canadian but not military and possibly an ambulance or rescue service.

I think its Canadian Intelligence related..... a wing of the RCAF. The snake and arrow is a metaphore for good and evil (crooked snake and straight arrow) and the star behind represents the compass points.

Interesting speculation about this badge, but I don't think we are any closer to identification. Intelligence is a branch of its own, http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/can...nce_branch.htm and wears that badge in combination with the RCN, RCAF or army headdress.

Could be a sub unit within Canadian Int Corps?

Cap badges are seldom used to id sub-units. Sub-unit identification is usually done through patches or unit titles. Eg the Intelligence Branch (I am not sure if they have returned to the older designation of Intelligence Corps) would wear a cap badge, and if it was 6 Intelligence Company, they would wear a cadpat title identifying the unit, say 6 INT COY. There may be a formation patch identifying the unit.
The Canadian army and airforce also have distinctive trade badges to id intelligence trades.

A few of the cap badges worn by Canadian Intelligence personnel since 1901: Corps of Guides, Canadian Cyclist Corps, C Int C, Security Branch, and Intelligence Branch cap badges.

Hello Griff. The devices in the design are the north star and the compass needle. They represent the role of the Corps of Guides, which was to find the way for the operations. I am not sure how the Security Branch badge fits in? It is for the Military Police.
