Hi All,
Can anyone help identify any of these items please? 1a. Small Button with w/m crown/coronet (1.5cm diameter) 1b. Loose crown that looks similar but may be entirely unconnected 2. Artillery or Engineers? Does anyone recognise the letter system? Indian? Thai? 3. Green Howards badges with sliders - small - one w/m, one g/m. Seen described on eBay and britishmilitarybadges.co.uk (which doesn't bode well) as WW2 beret badges. No markings except 1885 in centre of Dannebrog. 4. Some sort of Lancashire Fusiliers medallion (blank on back and rim). I presume it's 3rd prize for the regimental egg and spoon race but post it here in case someone recognises it as something specific 5. Royal Fusiliers sweethearts badge but has anyone any idea at all what the horseshoe-type thing around it might be, apart from a lack of design? 6. A small R Fus badge in w/m (2/3 the size of a normal badge) Thanks and best wishes, Tom |
item 3 is not GH, check the date. 1885 means its the 19th Hussars. GH has 1875. WM badge is the standard cap badge the GM badge would be wwi economy though it would need checking out.

1- Merchant Navy?
4 is a regimental "medal" of some kind to the Lancashire Fusiliers, the back perhaps bearing engraved name of recipient and / or event such as shooting or a sport.. 5 is a sweetheart brooch, Royal Fusiliers, the horseshoe being a common feature of many regimental sweethearts. It symbolises good luck although the shoe being that way up is sometimes held not to be lucky (as the luck falls out). 6 is a collar badge of a Volunteer Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers, what appears to be a coronet is the Victorian Crown. |
No 2 is an Indian badge and the script is Devanagari, in this case Hindi but also used for Nepali.

No. 1 is RN Mess Dress (Squires), silver mounted on gilt. The separate crown is a Naval Crown and may possibly be detached from one of the above types of button. Have a look at the back

Sometimes after posting idiot things on here I just want to crawl into a dark corner and cry! I'd completely forgotten the 19th Hussars' 'A' badge! I always have them in the back of my mind as elephants! |
19th Hussars - the elephant in the room.......

BTW, those who try to pronounce this: all 'a's here are short and more like in the utterance 'uh'. |
