Alan’s photo is a bit dark. Here we have a blackened version, a whitemetal one with blades and an ex-Hugh King blackened with an attached scroll, I’ve never seen another.

All Gaunt I beleive.

I would suspect the w/m with blades is for an officers hat. Alas VB are not well recorded.

I would be very confident the WM on (double) blades is other ranks. Quite a few early Volunteers badges are on these long thin double blades which I have also heard referred to as butterfly tangs.

I have a couple of 17th London Battalion ORs' badges fitted with double blades. I like the poetic 'butterfly tangs'. Sounds like a martial arts weapon.
