Chaps, I initially thought this Cpl was Rifle Bde, but he appears to possibly have a 'LONDON' strap on his shoulder title with a 'T' above? Thoughts?

It's is widely known but the 33rd Bn London Regiment was raised in WW1 and wore the RB cap badge.

Smashing portraits JT with super sharp badge detail.

Thanks Alan I did not know that. For anyone interested here is a relevant thread on the GWF:

Good call, Alan. Wondering what STs they would have worn (if any)? I am aware that c. 1917, the 29th, 30th, 31st and 32nd Londons, wore (either on the shoulder or upper arm) embroidered scarlet numerals on (Khaki?) worsted patches. Obsolete by 5th Jan 1920.

Thumbs-up.

I would say definitely not 8th Londons due to the voiding below the lower arm of the cross. This was not found on their badges.

Thanks Gents - unfortunately the original image has lost definition when they created the enlarged print photograph.

After further studying I am now certain it's the 17th Londons. The shoulder title is, to my eyes, T/17/LONDON.

Alan O 31-05-22 04:05 PM

That sounds likely. By the time the 33rd was formed in 1918 I suspect the metal s/ts were replaced by cloth ones.
