An interesting War Memorial in a Church I visit with one casualty to a New Zealand Regiment.

The Memorial is carved wood with what appears to be original badges nail on?

Hello,
Voici un cap badge qui provient aussi de Nouvelle Zélande. Il est en métal fondu.
Here is a cap badge that also comes from New Zealand. It is cast metal.

Thank you

Not sure what proportion of NZEF were born in UK. Some say between 18% and 30%. There is a list with over 1200 Named war dead out of NZ total of 18000 with a Scottish next of kin address. There are men who arrived in July 1914 who turned round and went back with the main body of the NZEF in October 1914

This is great, especially when the Carillion in Wellington has some WWII badges on its WWI displays.

I noticed recently on the war memorial in my hometown in Northern Ireland, that out of about 300 men who died in the Great War, about 8 of them had dies with the AIF, no doubt most of them were recent immigrants.

I'm sure that NZ would have been much higher, given the relative youth of the country itself. It still amazes me that you drive through any small town in Australia and New Zealand and the war memorials are just jam packed with names.
