Muscat Regiment, Sultan's Armed Forces, Oman

The Muscat Regiment is the senior unit of the Royal Army of Oman. It was founded in 1921 as the Muscat Levies and became the Muscat Infantry in 1923. The uniform was loosely Indian in character.
The cap badge shows the emblem of the Sultan of Oman which consist of a Khunjar or Omani dagger of Al Said family pattern superimposed on crossed Saifs or Omani tribal swords. The scroll reads Muscat Infantry. These badges are made in brass with a silver wash and can be found with either a slider or two NS loops. They are of typical IndoPakistani cast construction.
No other badges are known but it is logical that at least a shoulder title existed.
In 1958 the Muscat Infantry was renamed the Muscat Regiment - the title it retains today.
The cap badge was a silver Sultanic emblem above a gilt scroll reading Muscat Regiment. The badge is of very heavy high quality manufacture constructed in two pieces. Interestingly the scroll and it's attached lug were gilded together before the badge was assembled. The lugs are very long, about half an inch in length. The only logical explanation is that it was intended to be worn on the Agyl head rope.
Two collar badge patterns are known. One has a simple pair of crossed saifs, and the other a Sultanic emblem without a scroll. The latter are interesting in that close inspection will show they are not an exact pair. The Khunjar hilts and sheaths are different in detail. This pair is however known to have been worn as seen by the CO of MR c 1959.
The shoulder title is finely made in copper gilt.
It is known that ORs had a different pattern of shoulder title and it seems likely that these badges are all officer's pattern.

Hi Eddie. Here is the shoulder title of the Muscat Infantry. Cast brass with two integral flat lugs on the reverse. Regards, Andrew.

Thanks for posting that Andrew. I was sure it must exist! Looks like a typical Indian made job. Your one looks almost unfinished.
