Hi, just got these. The badge is OK but what are the cloth flashes? They look fairly modern and the white thread glows. Are they someone's idea of arms of service stripes or are they something else? thanks in advance Mike

Flashes

They look like "Minden Roses" as worn by the Suffolk Regt, now Royal Anglians.

Rob

They look way too big for Minden Flashes. Don’t forget that red and yellow are also the colours of the Royal Armoured Corps....

Flashes

True, they do look a little bit over size for Minden Roses.

Mike, they look a little like something the local regimental tailors shop has knocked up.

Could they be for course students at Bovington for example? Or something like that?

RP staff . . . ?

Repro/re-enactors ?

Probably way off the mark but found this on "The Long , Long Trial" website , described as :

Quote:

From the war diary of the General Staff at the headquarters of 36th (Ulster) Division. Crown copyright. National Archives WO95/2491. May 1917. The sleeve ‘battle patches’ worn by the division’s infantry battalions.

Mike,

These are the Suffolk regimental sleeve flash (coincidentally looking like giant RAC AoS strips) this style was worn by 7th Bn that converted to 142RAC and who retained this style until they went over to the epaulette version later on. Jon Mills’ BoBD confirms the style of badge. But these do look like modern knock ups don’t they.

Some of the early Suffolk cadet brassards do have some pretty big minden flash’s on them.

Hi, thanks for all the replies. there is no doubt they are post 1950 and probably later, other than the fact they came with the RAC badge I would not have bothered with them. Still open to suggestions, best wishes and thank you Mike
