THE BIG CAST BADGE THREAD

We would like to pull together images and information on cast badges, that's 'sandcast' or 'theatre made' badges.
Brian Conyngham will be managing this, collecting images and data and eventually placing the pictures in a dedicated album.

If you would like to contribute, images can be placed in this thread or sent to Brian.

A great idea. Here are my sand cast badges, if they are any good to you, sorry I have not got back pictures for some of them.

re: Dedicated Cast Badge BBF Album

Hi All

Firstly I would just like to say I am no expert in this field (I doubt anyone is, sadly with the passing of time all we have are snippits of information regards these badges). However they have always held a special place in my collection, as they were "made and worn in theatres of combat".

I have had a thread going in the Soth African section for some time and have noted that there is an interest in these badges from UK collectors. Link here: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ad.php?t=21443

I would therefore really like to gather as much info, images/variations that anyone might have, and who are prepared to share with the rest of the BBF.

An Album dedicated to these badges will soon be opened, please keep the images and info coming. Sadly like all of us my time is limited, however, I will keep the Cast Badge Thread updated regularly.

Thanking you all.

Regards
Brian

Brian,
good luck with the project, I think you can safely disregard anything British submitted with a Queen's Crown (post 1950's) as fake or for fancy only, with the possible exception of a few items such as RASC pipers and other such badges that would be required in very small numbers, not cost effective enough to product a die for.

Best regards

Andy

Only got this one, for the RASC. I can take more pics if you want it, as in this it is at a bit of an angle.

Please see below the few that I have. Unsure of the age of the 4th/7th, the RM looks like it may have originally been a collar or part of a 2 part beret badge which has had a crude slider fitted for wear in a beret, the Royal Irish Fusiliers is the large piper's size badge and the RAMC looks like it may have been bronzed/darkened.

Some Signals.

The first one has "silver" stamped on the back but looks a bit coppery where it is worn on the front. The last one is a smaller collar badge.
