Can anyone identify the maker of this British Military button from the backmark please ? For some reason the photo keeps appearing upside down - sorry about that.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have an early Militia button with a similar mark (see below). I have a note that it may be related to W. R. Smith.

Cheerio,

Roy

I can date the button to 1901 or 1902 because the Regiment was disbanded in early 1902. The previous QVC buttons of the Regiment were made by Hobsons.

So far I had seen the crown - wreath backmark on buttons from the 1820s to the 1870s. Your button seems to be much later. I do not know who used this backmark.

Is the shank's intersection circular or D-shaped?

Not sure if it helps but the example I have shown dates from 1808-1816.

Cheerio,

Roy

From the dates could it be in special back mark in memoriam to the late Queen Victoria?
