hey
just over 3mths ago, i was offered a little collection of badges. i looked at them and made an offer. 24hrs later, the state was locked down due to covid and there was no way of meeting and completing the deal especially seeing the gentleman was in a retirement home where the rules were strictly enforced.
today i called in to see him and came away with this little lot. there is a story behind them so when i sort it out i will let you all know. but for now im showing off

Thanks for sharing BC

Great to see the slightly different manufacturing variations show on both the 70 brass numerals and 55 shoulder titles.

Any manufacturers names stamped on the back of these badges at all ?

Cheers,

Invest

Years ago I was told by an old-time collector, a reliable source, that he actually saw a hat badge of the 71st Infantry with a distinctive design. Apparently only two or three trial strikings were ever made and never adopted by the regiment. Certainly one of the rarest 1912-18 badges.

BC, I would be interested to see a picture of the rubber mold when you find it :)

Picture Reference: "Hat Badges of the Australian Army 1903 - 1930", by Alfred N. Festberg, dated 1981.

given to me by Cossum many years ago. a note with it says he found it in Tasmania many years ago and there was a brass planchet also.
this seems to be in rubber or a type of silicon?
anyway, a nice piece of trivia
enjoy
