French Surrender !
 

Saw this on a social media platform and it amused me ! "Apparently Boris got a phone call on Saturday from Macron offering the surrender of France. Boris was confused until he realised that Macron had mis interpreted the 41 gun salute for HRH Prince Philip at Portsmouth! " -:)

Someone else posted that a couple of days ago and apparently another member got upset and the post/thread was removed !

I personally thought it was a bit of tongue in cheek humour that was in the same vein as some of the comments/gaffs the D of E was well known for. ;)

1000 YEARS OF ANNOYING THE FRENCH
 

Apologies in advance then if it was deemed "insensitive" to the French - but I've just finished a brilliant book by Stephen Clarke - "1000 years of Annoying the French" - It's well researched and very funny and seeks to explain the "love hate relationship that exists between the two countries and that our versions of the same events "are like two completely different stories" - It starts from 1066 and goes through to the present day - but one fact I didn't know which may interest forum members concerns D-Day. I knew something of the Allied distrust for De Gaulle and his anger about being excluded from the D Day planning - but I didn't realise the full extent of the French involvement in the actual landings . So here's a question for you - out of the initial landing force of some 156,000 troops on D Day - how many were French ?

I'll give you the answer later today - no googling !

Remembered the scene from the movie and while searching for it found the answer to your question ....... but won't give it away ! ;)

Good answer from Scotlandthebrave, only talking of soldiers who landed.

You may add a few 1000s if you count the crews from french ships & planes involved in D Day landing. Other troops landed later during the Normandy campaign, eg 2e DB, which despite later deployment made its path up to Eagle Nest Berchtesgaden, via Paris.

Worth to mention too that most of fighting frenchs troops were fighting hard times at D Day Normandy landing time in Italy, and to remind as well that out of the 350 000 troops who partipated to the Provence landing in August, almost a quarter of million (230 000) were frenchs, including my grand father. Simple reason for this is that most of the fighting frenchs soldiers were closer to Provence (either fighting in Italy, or massed in North Africa -a then french colony- waiting for the landing in provence).

Oh well, that's this thread crashed and burned then.

I am surprised this thread didn't get removed, like mine did. Upset one person and the post gets deleted, upset a Nation and it doesn't.....

Unfortunately, that is now very typical of this country: upset a minority and laws/thoughts/actions/way of life and many other aspects of what this country was and had, are changed in order to pacify the minority and the lily livered snowflakes who complain in the first instance.

I'm British through and through, I'm not a snowflake, a wimp, a woke whinger or anything else like that. I'm extremely proud of my country and it's history. However, I can't help wondering what the reaction of British forum members would be if one of the French members took the piss out of Boris or the Ginger Whinger who's just flown in for the funeral on Saturday. For the record it wasn't me who complained.:)
