RMC badge with odd fixings
 

has anyone figured out why this badge has a slider and a single lug? This is at least the 3rd one ive seen like this

Some British badges have blgh lugs and slider.
I find it interesting that the slider is fitted upside down.
I find it hard to accept that only one lug was available and so a slider was utilised instead of the second lug.

I remember reading a long time ago it was made that way specifically for a particular headdress unique to RMC. I'm trying to find the reference. The slider hooked under the band and the lug kept it in place from sliding along the hat. It prevented damaging the lace on the hat or the hat itself or something like that. To understand the badge try looking at the headdress of the colleges.

I was wondering whether it was meant to slide up into a socket and then be clipped into place.
So basically it prevents fraying of lace or fabric by not taking the badge lugs out of the fabric for cleaning the badge or risking fraying by use of a button stick?

That was my understanding, But I'm not sure which headdress it was for. I also wonder if it way have been for the service dress cap. It was after all a temporary badge, and an officer wouldn't want to purchase a new hat on arrival at his new unit, his permanent unit, with holes in his hat from a previous badge.

I also wonder if it could be used as a helmet plate center?

RMC dress is a world of it's own.

Someone once told me it was for a crossbelt plate or buckle plate?
