Women's Timber Corps

The Calico Special Edition of The Formation Sign - copies still available - included this previously unrecorded and unknown fir tree sign.

A member of the Military Heraldry Society has now found this photo of a Lumberjill who appears to be wearing a similar sign on her jumper.

As this picture is a little indistinct has anyone got or seen a clearer image to confirm the ID?

The Imperial War Museum collection states 'Cloth badge, green, with embroidered pine tree and W.F.C (in pale green)' under their inventory listing for 'Badge, Unit, British, Women's Timber Corps', unfortunately there is no image to compare it with your badge.

Simon,

Thanks for that but I believe that the badge described is the WWI version.

There was another WW1 variation , the WFS (Women's Forestry Service), with a similar badge.

"but the Foresters bear on their armlets and hat a distinctive and highly artistic badge. This was designed by one of the corps, herself an artist, and consists, for the measurers, of a tree embroidered in green silk on a khaki background, surrounded by the letters W. F. S. "

The image is from a book cover , could there be other pictures in the book ?

May be worth a library visit .

Thanks for that. The fellow collector who sent me the picture said he got it from that book but that there were no more pictures of it anywhere else in it.
