Two badges for Alli

]Thought that these might appeal to Alli (or anyone else for that matter).
Just picked these up in a quirky little shop in York and am well pleased. The Coldstream Guards Sweetheart is Sterling silver and enamel and I have not tried to polish it and it remains in a nicely tarnished state. The 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards is enamel on gilding metal and the star appears to be mounted on a small disc of mother of pearl. Both are in lovely condition. At a cost of £12 for the two, I was not going to argue. Very pleased:)....as usual I manage to get the photo upside down??? |
That's beautiful James, what a bargain, I'm long overdue a trip to York you'll have to tell me where the shop is next time I go. Very jealous, that's a lovely sweetheart.

Allowing for the fact the images are upside down:
Is it usual for the horseshoe to face down? or do you think the centre of the first item 4/7 RDG has been mounted up side down? - very nice quality so I may be way off. Mike |

Mike,
I know what you mean, isn't the horse shoe supposed to have the gap at the top " to stop good luck falling out " ? However I have two Kings Regiment sweethearts with the gap at the bottom. Just seen Alli`s post, perhaps the luck falling out idea is relatively modern ? Peter |

That's quite sweet actually apart from being upside down, I don't have a nice RA sweetheart...... |
I think it all depends http://superstitionsonline.com/horse...k-up-and-down/
|
I must confess that it seems more logical for the horseshoe to be the other way up......but that could be pure superstition......will the luck fall out??????

I remember being told by a farmer that one should always stand under a horseshoe that was upside down because the luck will fall down onto you. Having said that, I broke a mirror once and had bad luck for years. I am quite superstitious I suppose.
|
Me too, I try not to be but magpies have to be saluted, ladders walked round, horseshoes right way up, chimney sweeps kissed :D
|
The whole subject of sweethearts is very confusing - I recall the traditional Saturday toast on a decanter of Pussers Rum - 'to sweethearts and wives - may they never meet'
|
Very sensible toast :)
