Comments on a RNR cap badge please
 

I took a gamble recently and picked up this item on eBay. It struck me as having very fine, relatively uncorroded bullion for its age. It is similar to one “RCN” posted back in 2008 in the thread, “RNR Officer cap badge”. It measures about 2 7/8” at the maximum width. Perhaps those of you more knowledgeable than I can confirm that I have what I think I have; a pre 1921 Royal Naval Reserve Officers cap badge. I gather the red central crown jewel dates it to that era. The Crown appears to be of oxidized silver. Does this mean the badge was reserved for the Executive Branch? Is there any way to further date the badge, based on the backing style?

Its a standard RNR officers cap badge worn throughout its existence when a Kings Crown was appropriate.

I agree with Brian about the age of this badge - it's certainly much older than WWII. The RNR adopted RN cap badges in 1920, so this badge dates between 1901-20. It looks absolutely fine for having been made between those dates. In 1921 the distinctive RNR buttons were replaced with RN issue but although RNR buttons were reintroduced between 1951-58 they retained the RN officers cap badge. A nice badge!

Agree with Pete.
At first look at zorgon's RNR Officer capbadge I thought it might be Civil Branch(all embroidered in goldwire, no silverwire) but then I saw the band of silver at the bottom of the crown & realized it was Military(Executive) Branch. I check mine also & see they are similar,
I will try to post shots of my RNR badge zorgon mentioned in his initial post.
