Local Show Finds

This just goes to prove that you never know what you're going to find at a show. Normally if I find one dealer with British items I feel lucky, but this time was a jackpot! There were at last 6 dealers with British, mostly badges. And not just that, some I never would have expected to find at that show!!!

First I found a Camberdigshire (missing "E") cap badge for a friend, and then nearly fell over when I found a WW1 Australian nurses silver plated RS throat badge!!! After that it was just add-ons for me.

Not sure if the tartan square is a badge backing or a TRF.

Bottom line, I came home with a very big smile on my face!!!

Finds!!!!

Terry,

Looks like you had a good day, pleasant surprises . . !

You have always got to attend these shows, even if you never buy anything.

Thanks for sharing.

Terry,
Well done! The tartan square is a TRF for the King’s Own Scottish Borderers

The no "e" Cambs is the winner for me! Still don't have one.

I will take a closer set of pictures of the nurses badge tomorrow and post it.

CB, I will certainly keep an eye out for another one. I actually got that one for a friend and fellow forum member. I do see them every so often and may even know oif one. I'll check and get back to you. It's a great badge for HG or just a Cambridgeshire collection. Don't give up hope, we'll find you one.

Tim, I was thinking that tartan patch was a TRF, but took the chance anyway, as I did on the two Scottish badges, which I am not hopeful of. Have to chalk them up to emotional buys, and trying to compare what I was seeing with what I knew from researching.

Thank you gentlemen,

Terry

As I mentioned after getting home and checking my references and the forum I have major doubts about these two Scottish badges. My biggest concern is they are both white metal, but look to have footed lugs. I am thinking that is a dead give-away as being bad. Any thoughts appreciated.

Terry

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but they are Marsh catalogue badges: the big eye browed deer and the fliiper handed Liverpool Scottish are from fake dies.

Cambridgeshire without the "E"

Terry,
Could you get a close up of the front and reverse of the Cambridgeshire without the "E" please.

From what I see I am not that convinced it's a real one.

Here are the pictures of the Cambridgeshire badge and the Australian Nurses badge. I know they are terrible pictures, so if they do not tell you what you are looking for I will try again.

I have also seen the Cambridgeshire badge without the burn holes in the back, but otherwise looks the same.

Cambridgeshire version with 'E' and braze holes. Has a similar flat top shield. Regards, Paul.

Cambridgeshire Regt without an "E"

Here is my Cambridgeshire Regt without an "E", the top of the shield is oval and there are no blowholes on the reverse.

I have yet to see one of these badges with a flat top shield and I have had several of them including my Father-in-laws which he kept instead of handing it back.

Thanks Rob, I am still hoping it's a good one as I got it for a friend, and I hate to send him a dud.
