Operation Polar Bear

1 Attachment(s)
The attached badge is that of Operation Polar Bear, an exercise during the winter of 1945/46 in the northern part of Canada, were trials of men and machine were undertaken in extreme temperatures. All three services were involved, the Army on the ground undertaking most of the trials, the RCAF, who flew in supplies, and the navy who i think spotted on the drop zones.

The patch seems to have been predominantly worn by the Army, but I have no evidence it was worn by the Air Force at all. Can someone confirm it one way or the other?

Many thanks

There is no evidence the RCAF components wore the patch. It was apparently only worn by the army components. Here is a link to an article I wrote on the Ex patches. https://milart.blog/2016/09/17/cold-...hes-1944-1950/

Bill, that's fantastic and has answered a long held query for me.

Many thanks.
