Charlie Watts

Yet another inevitable shocker. Everything and nothing lasts. He will be sorely missed.

Agreed. A fantastic drummer. RIP Charlie.

Charlie was the band's rock and him and Bill Wyman laid down the greatest backbeat any band could wish for. It was bad enough when Brian Jones died in 1969 and then his replacement, Mick Taylor, left in 1974, but when they brought in Ronnie Wood that finished it for me. Bill's departure was a blow to the Stones and now Charlie has died it must be the end for the band. Their only reason to carry on would be pure greed but with Jagger's passion for dosh they might well give it a go. RIP Charlie.

Indeed, I agree that it is over now for the Stones.
In most ways, they were pretty much done for me in 1969 though.

It has to be said that the way Brian Jones was treated was terrible. He was the one who formed the band and he was a brilliant multi-instrumentalist as their '60s output clearly demonstrates. He certainly had his problems but sacking him was shameful and was an early indication of what an arsehole Jagger could be.
