Pin Identification

Hello

The picture here is one of my great grandfather, Andrew Wallace. Andrew was a Boer War veteran (I'm looking for his QSA in another posting) who went to South Africa with the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles later in the war. It is rumoured that his regiment did not see much action and that he may have been a prisoner of war guard. This brings me to the picture.

On his lapel is what appears to be a Maltese Cross. We are sure that while in Winnipeg (location of picture) he was not associated with the medical profession or fire department. We were told that this may be a ZAR coin pin, given to veterans as souvenirs. We were wondering if anyone has an opinion on the type of pin. Any comments are welcomed. Thanks

Dan: try pming QSAMIKE. If that pin has anything to do with the Boer War he will know.

Hello Dan......

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you but I do not recognize the pin.....

I will have to check my private messages more often......

And yes even though he has only State and Date bars on his QSA that does not mean he did not see any action..... The 2nd was on patrol duty and did have a few run-in's with the Boers..... He just missed the big major battles....
