Not sure if I have posted details before but I have some copies left of my small book From Scarlet to Khaki which provides a profusely illustrated overview of British Army uniforms from 1900 to the 1960s, pointing out the things to look for when identifying and dating uniforms in photos.

As I extended into uniforms alongside badges I found this an absolute godsend to help to start to understand the intricacies of this field.
