I recently bought a wartime Gale & Polden wall chart of RAF badges which included a badge thus described. I have never come across it before. Can anyone enlighten me?

Thank you for the two pictures. I have found a National Archives file which covers the reintroduction of the star to the postwar R Aux Air Force and will report back when I have read it.

Have now been through National Archives file AIR2/10251 which covers the
Re-introduction and conditions of issue of the Efficiency Star: Royal Auxiliary Air Force; March 1948 to June 1955.

It notes that the star was introduced for Auxiliary Air Force on its formation and was copied from a similar star worn at that date by the Territorial Army. It reproduces a page from AP968 of November 1925 which explains the star and how it was worn. Copy of that page attached.

There is a draft of the proposed postwar regulations which replaces No 2 Home Dress for the original mention of Service Dress.

A letter of 10th October notes that 1,500 badges have been ordered but that they would not be available until 1st April 1950.

The Territorial version of the star is explained on page 49 of Edwards and Langley.

Has anyone seen a photo of the star being worn?

Jon
