79th Cameron Highlanders of Canada variant or 'one of' ?

I just purchased this off of EBAY ( because I have a insatiable curiosity for weird badges). It appears to be a 79th Camerons Sporran badge on a RCR star pattern badge. The 79th badge is bigger than a collar badge to this Militia Regt, measuring 41 x 36 mm in gilding metal, the RCR badge that appears closest to this is indicated in Brooker's Volume 6 as the Officers pattern 1920-1937 (238-10-280) with original slider, in white metal not silver. The 79th badge was affixed by two small pinholes under the slider and copper post or lug can be seen in a separate hole near the bottom. The original holes for the RCR centre overlay have been filled with solder. I know that other badges to other CEF and Militia units were made up like this, the 151st Bn CEF (151C) being an example, I have never seen another like this one though and I wonder if this is a "one of" badge or if perhaps there was a purpose to the madness. I will be selling this badge in the near future but am, as I said curious.

That is a well made modified badge. Purpose? Probably lost to posterity.
