Is it possible to find out who these pins were issued to? I am wanting to see if they belong to any of the medal groups I am selling, it would be a shame to not include them.
Thanks in advance |
Yes, it is possible. Ancestry has Silver War Badge rolls. Send me the numbers and I can check.
|
Wild guess, they are issued to Parkers :D
|
154086 is to Henry Charles Parker Rifle Brigade Reg no 6/450
B141329 is to John Parker Highland Light Infantry Reg no 3105 |
Ah, well done! Should click on the picture to enlarge :o

Can I also ask for help with Silver War Badge 455775 . :)
It is from my "Founder Organisations" set for my British Legion collection. . |
WO329 gives a Charles Nimmo who served as 93118 Private RAMC from the 12th of October 1915 until his discharge, because of sickness upon the 15th of September 1919.

A quick glance at WO363 shows Charles Nimmo was a twenty one year old from Glasgow, interestingly, the receipt for your badge has also survived.

Thank you Frank , appreciate the info and will put a note with the badge.

Thank you very much for your help!

You are welcome, the entry in WO329 as mentioned earlier, third man down, he had enlisted into the Territorial Force for the duration of the war.

Intrigued by the "Founder Organisations" mentioned in your post. Presumably you mean that it came with a Comrades of the Great War or similar badge? I've got a "Comrades" badge with an SWB also and a Comrades badge with that charming little "1920" enamel tag that you sometimes see. I think that there is a "1921" example that you see from time to time. The BL website says that these are for members present at the first conference or something of that ilk. True or another myth? Some years back I bought (and still have!) a large-sized Comrades badge numbered "250" or a number not far off that. Definitely one of the first to join! |

1. The Comrades of the Great War. 2. The National Association of Discharged Sailors and Soldiers (Silver Badge Party). 3. The National Federation of Discharged and Demobilized Sailors and Soldiers. 4. The Officers' Association ( fundraising department ). "The British Legion was found in 1921 as a voice for the ex-service community as a merger of three organisations: the Comrades of the Great War, the National Association of Discharged Sailors and Soldiers and the National Federation of Discharged and Demobilized Sailors and Soldiers, and incorporated the fundraising department of the Officers' Association." I have a large and small 'Comrades' badge , plus a 'Women's Section' and 'Associate Member' one. |
Hi Mike
Good to know that I was on the right track then. I've gathered up a few "oddities" in this area so I may (re)post some of the pics of those badges. I got a membership card for the National Assoc some months ago and I must see what I can find about the owner. Cheers and thanks! |

Was wondering if you could do me a favour and look up this SWB? It came with a Comrades of the Great War badge. B 92731 It is for a G.L. Norman but there are THREE possibilities from a very quick search of National Archives. Many thanks in advance! |
