Is this a Canadian Pathfinder badge, or US issue. I know the sew on Pathfinder badge for the jump smock has just the white in the flames but for the CF uniform is the US style worn?

When Patrol Pathfinder (PPF) was redesigned a few years ago due to the massive failure rates we received a briefing on what the new course would be like and the various qualifications which would be granted (ie, you no longer had to be BPara qualified, DZ/LZ controller qualified in order to attend as these courses would be part of the course except BPara was replaced fro Static Line Square Canopy). At the same time, the final mod of the course which centered on planning PPF operations was done in two parts: For those who were PLQ qualified they would complete it and wear the Torch with a white flame, for those not PLQ qualified they would attend the mod on a future serial and wear a Torch with red flame. As far as I know it never happened as few units would even consider loading a Non-PLQ qualified member on an advanced course.

Thank you very much Richard for the information.

Was there a Grey flamed torch that was issued for a short period,
Or did I mis read something? Cheers |
Yes, there was a grey-flamed version. Initial version produced for the Canadian Airborne Regiment kit shop in 1975. Had olive torch and wings with grey flame on olive twill. National Defence HQ rejected the design as it had no Maple Leaf in the design, and, when worn on the right sleeve, looked as if it was going backward. All were pulled and it wasn't until the mid-80's when the design was approved and produced with a white flame and moved to wear on the left sleeve (still no Maple Leaf in the design).
