Mystery buttons
 

Hello all,
A couple of unidentified buttons here with over a Century between them. The first is a small 14mm Victorian Jennens gilt brass example with a difficult to read cypher. I've attached the best images possible but this was very hard to photograph clearly. The second is a fairly modern QE2 Staybrite again difficult to photograph but has a winged Caduceus so some medical connection, with the initials R.A.eC.? It's obviously neither Royal Army Educational Corps or Royal Army Medical Corps.
Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

To me, the first two photo’s seem to show the present day crown rather than a “Vicky” crown. The mounted cypher seems NOT to show a “V” or an “E” for Victoria or Elizabeth. So a regimental cypher? Also, is it British? The style of Jennens back mark should determine what era it was made in. IMHO! David J.

The Jennens back mark is definitely Victorian, having a serif style lettering font and a gilded steel loop. I think the Crown issue is just the angle of the photo as it is definitely the Imperial Crown. Also, Jennens buttons ceased to be manufactured in 1924, being taken over by JR Gaunt.

The first button is in the style of mufti buttons. A couple of years ago Mr. Howard Ripley had an article on such buttons in Button Lines 160 - 162 (British Button Society)
