Queen's Surreys Territorial Band
1 Attachment(s)
Taken by a Thornton Heath, Surrey photographer the band, probably taking part in a local carnival, seems to be marching at ease. One of the bandsmen in the second rank has a T title on his shoulder strap.
Anyone care to suggest which TA Battalion? Jon |
Interesting photo. Wonder what/why the guys with the aprons are - maybe indicating they are Masons?

Isn't it to stop snags/rubs on uniform buttons etc. from their particular instruments.

The soldier wearing the apron in the back is a bass drummer, sans bass drum, unless it is out of sight being carried by his left hand. Usually bass drummers and tenor drummers had leopard skin aprons, but sometimes they were plain white.
The trombonist on the viewers right has his collar undone. They must be Terriers..... CB |
I was thinking that was more the case, but have always seen a leopard skin style, except waaaaay back when I believe a sheepskin was used.
