Royal Engineers officers coloured FS cap
 

A recent arrival, RE officers coloured fs cap with bullion badge and crown piping.

an interesting example as it has no actual button holes and the sides are sewn up, the latter I have seen before but the lack of buttonholes or at least faux is unusual imo

The green rifle fs cap I show you has the button holes...but the sides are sewn too...it hasn't the lateral hooks

as I said the sewn up sides is something I have seen on caps I own or by others but the complete lack of proper buttonholes or even stitching for them is unusual in my experience and they have sewn the two sides together at the front

Nice cap, the serial number fits within the post 1920 block of 1842001 - 2303000 for Royal Engineers - a senior NCO / Warrant Officer's cap?

thanks for looking up the RE number, I had not got round to it.

I think for many units, the senior nco's had curtain piping rather than crown piping, but as it has gs buttons you might be correct. But of course warrant officers could wear officer grade headgear.

The intricacies of fs caps have yet to be fully documented as far as I know.
