Unknown cap badge
 

Hi all,
I have this cap badge but have no idea what it relates to.
Any information would be appreciated.

I don't know, I think there was a thread on this badge in the past ,is it a Middlesex Regt item ?

Yes. You are quite right Peter, tho' I'm afraid I'm a bit dyslexic when it comes to links. But anyway this is a modified Insignia of the Order of Bath adapted by the 57th Foot for use on their SBPs Shako plates and other accoutrements circa 1830 to the 1860s. When mounted on the officer's equipment these were often glazed in coloured enamels.

Have done a search with "Order of Bath" and found some interesting information. But nothing definite yet. I will keep looking.

It's an adapted Eversleigh star, definitely.

Another theory I've come across is that it's a badge for the Brigade of Guards before the Irish and Welsh were formed.
