This cap badge is a puzzlement to me. if it is pre 1968 what type of cap was it worn on? an officer cap maybe??. and if post 1968, would it not be a try service badge?

RCN Fire Badge
Perhaps it was worn on the uniform and not as a cap badge?

Were they civilian firefighters?

Ron,
The RCN Firefighters wore a black peaked cap similar to that worn by PO1's & CPO's. They also had shoulder flashes NAVAL FIRE SERVICE in red lettering (or something very similar as I recall) on their black battledress tunics. Phil, RCN Firefighters were civilians. Bryan |
There were also the RCAF Fire Service and the Army Fire Service. (These were attributed to UK, but they are Cdn.)

For a time the RCASC handled the duties in the army. But, and I am not clear on this, at some time post war civilians were contracted for some if not all firefighting services.
I am not sure about the RCAF, excpet the approval for the shoulder titles were all considered at the same time. I would suspect that the situation was similar for the RCAF. |
