Canadian Black Watch (RHC)
Could a Canadian expert help me track down an official Canadian photograph showing BW and Canadian BW on Ex Harlequin in UK Sep 43 - image reference is 23746N - and it is published in the regimental history. Thanks. Mike

Just checked with Library and Archives Canada (aka LAC), they have only 23 published photographs of the WW2 Canadian Black Watch on files and none related to "Excercise Harlequin". Seems that #23746N is not a canadian number.... Jo PS...just checked with IWM files .....only 4 photos relating to Ex Harlequin....nonewith either Canadian BW or Imperial BW. Jo |
Jo,
Many thanks. What a mystery. I'll have to try the BW Museum (if there still is such an establishment). The image shows the Canadians chatting to members of 8 BW in 141 Inf Bde, 47 (London) Inf Div. Mike |
Mike, The reference numbers on images were changed at some point in time. The images may have originally been Cdn army, and then accessioned by LAC with a new catalogue number. I have run into this issue a couple of times.

Image 23746 is part of the numeric series (accession 1962-50) and the photo will be held by Library & Archives Canada. I checked and it has not been converted to a PA number or digitized and given an e- number.
A researcher (such as Ken Joyce) could order up the negative quite simply and take a digital image for you. If several photos were taken at the same event they will all be in the same file. If you wish to reach Ken then please provide your e-mail address. Clive |
