Another Australian VC

Looks like another SASR soldier is to be awarded the Victoria Cross on Sunday.

He already has a Medal for Gallantry!

Battle that earned soldier a VC

10 gold stars and I am glad he is on 'our' side. Well bloody done. Inspiring story. Thanks for highlighting it Mick.

Nice to read some decent "non trash" news for a change. Fantastic, and very well done. Deserved for sure. You have to wonder what the Taliban thought of this approaching 6'7" monster. :):) A frightening prospect!

Terrific story. thanks for posting it Mick.

I remember the Gurney Club at ITC Karrakatta, named after Stan Gurney, VC. and I recall there were other army clubs named after VC winners; possibly one at Swanbourne, and wonder if there are any such clubs which have been named after Australian VC winners since WW2. If there are, then the bloke in your story rates a really great one named after him.

Hi John,

Yes mate - there are quite a few army clubs named after VC winners.

The Wheatley VC Club @ Canungra (Kokoda Barracks) is named after Kevin Wheatley VC who was awarded it posthumously during the Vietnam War.

Hi Mick,
Thanks mate. I am really glad that tradition is still continued.

Best wishes,
John

With all the doom and gloom in the British press at the moment and that three faced duplicious ex prime minister of ours with an ugly wife back in the news defending his immoral actions, it's absolutely brilliant to have something like this to cheer about.

That must have been some sight to see.

Wonderful to read, thanks for posting.:D

Regards

Brian

We have just been watching the presentation of the Victoria Cross to SAS Corporal Ben Roberts-Smith. Heartiest Congratulations to him.
It was a ceremony that would make all Australians proud.
Well done, Australia!

Tinto, it makes me feel very proud too when I read of this, and it is fifty two years since I was at Swanbourne (I knew Karrakatta rather better).
I am an old man now, but some things never change and I guess we are all proud of him.

Regards,

john
