Hello

I am looking to identify the below side hat. It was made in India and is dark blue with light blue piping and blue inside the top. I can not identify it as being British so was thinking it might be Indian or Canadian

Regards

Matt

It looks very similar to a Cambridgeshire Regt cap except for a few minor differences, maybe an Indian version which was made as a replacement during the Cambridgeshire Regt's visit to India prior to their posting to Singapore.

Could be Royal Signals.

Cheers gents. I must admit Cambridgeshire regt was the only one that Looked at all similar in the books I’ve been looking at. As you say it’s got the right colours but just in slightly different places. Also looks a bit like an army educational services. Again - right colours but not quite there. The piping is the real wild card

As I recall, RAEC has a light blue body to the cap, dark blue curtain.
R. Sigs is found as per the one you show, also with the front peak of light blue and front peak of dark blue, unpiped. The light blue is a paler shade than the one you show, but if it's Indian made that could explain the less than exact colour match.
As you say, piping's not always "accurate" compared to published references like the Phillips booklet, Colored Field Service Caps: Infantry, British Uniforms and Insignia of World War II and others.

"Britton at War" has a cap as per the one you show for sale as R. Signals albeit the light blue of the vent and piping isn't as bright.

Thanks Leigh

Great shout re Royal Signals. The 2 x references I was using either missed out the Sigs or put some gold piping on instead.

Really appreciate it. I’ve done some more research and it has to be royal sigs

The gold piping will be on officers caps, I suspect that what appears as yellow piping on some caps illustrated in the Phillips booklet is gold because they've based an illustration on an officer's cap whereas the OR's would have a different colour or no piping.

Matt, it’s always a good idea to tell the forum members that you may be selling it, after all some have put in the time and effort , that you are able to use on your eBay listing, and also they might have wanted to make you an offer for it. All the best Andrew.

Many thanks and no offence was intended. It is priced at a cheap price ready for a bid. I do not conduct business outside of eBay due to the buyer and seller protection it offers. It’s been in my collection for ages and I wanted to get it out to make way for my Yeomanry and Cavalry items.
