Jennens & Co Rising sun

I have had one of these collar badges for years and never knew the maker until a friend recently showed me this marked example. Mine is oxidised not this high quality gilt.
Nice to know the maker at last. Jennens must have been a supplier for Australian officers in WW1.
I would be interested in a marked one if anyone has a spare, also a Firmin collar badge.
I have seen rising suns marked Firmin, Gaunt, Tiptaft, and Narborough, all with minor die differences. There are probably other UK makers as well.

Nice badge. I wonder if it might have been made for a Staff Corps officer posted abroad (or even in Australia) in the post-Great War period.

Hi

Not knowing a great deal about rising suns (even though I do live in the general area they represent....) but that badge is quite "solid" and most of the ones I've seen (and got) are "hollow-backed" with the maker cunningly hidden like some "Where's Wally?" exercise!

Yes, I would suggest that you badge is not that common (lucky you!) and maybe post-WW1 issue. The gilding also suggests a superior "customer"!

Hi Kingsley

That really is a nice badge, I have never seen one with cut outs like this or marked J & Co. What a great pick up.

Regards Phil.
