It is the first issue cap badge for the RUC. There are also matching collars and buttons. It was worn for a short time only before being replaced by the KC and harp. The fittings on the reverse are two loops east and west.

Thanks Dave
I don’t suppose you or anyone has a pic of the reverse?
Although this badge doesn’t have its reverse fittings it does look from the remains that they were blades. Will you try and post a reverse pic soon.
Is it correct this is the officers version?

Please see photos of front and reverse of those I have.

Several years ago there were a few manufacturers "sample" versions of the badge sold at auction. All were slightly different. As to whether your example was intended to be worn by officers, I don't know. Someone with greater knowledge than me may be able to say.

Hi Dave
Thanks for the pics
My badge is distinctly different as it is 2 piece.
Doesn’t look like it ever had lugs but maybe thin blades east west.
What do you think
Also what do you think it’s worth?
Cheers

I don't know whether it would have been an issued badge or a sample. They were only worn for a short time. The men apparently did not like the design and wanted a return to the badge used by the RIC. So, they were withdrawn. I don't know if they had a different pattern for senior officers. From your photos it looks a good badge.

As to the value - how long is a piece of string? Genuine RIC and early RUC badges are much sought after, I'll say no more than that.
