Wots this new "Ranger Regiment"?
 

Is this supposed to be a new individual regiment, or some sort of other tactical unit manned by battalions borrowed from other regiments? Is there a badge to come along?

To be confirmed, but there may be a design for a cap badge consisting of an eagle with outstretched wings over a scroll 'RANGERS'. Apparently not unlike the badge of the Selous Scouts?

The Formation Badge might (emphasize might) look like the opposing FS knives previously used by Army Commandos.

The four battalion TRFs will consist of an olive green square with merrowed edges:
Roman I with blue merrow, Roman II with black merrow, Roman III with buff/sand merrow, Roman IV with green merrow.

Being a Yank, I have always thought this was the role of the SAS? I can see I am wrong, but not sure I understand the difference?

I agree that eagles are not a very appropriate symbol for the British Army. I would hope they can avoid the ubiquitous daggers, skulls, lightning bolts etc. too, but I don't hold out much hope.

Ive heard, that the SAS/SBS are struggling with members passing selection ! And won't lower their standards, hence this new Regiment ?

I agree Romans, French and US armies have eagles. The only ones in the British Army should be the ones borrowed from Napoleon.

My hope would be they go Back to the Future and utilise designs derived from some of the historic Rangers formations.

Rangers in the US aren't special forces. The Selous Scouts were.
The bird on the Selous Scouts insignia is an osprey not an eagle.

Wow. That is truly awful. I imagined something bad, but that is worse.

Sorry to say I’ve never been a fan of Selous Scouts badges, they look like chromed Pokémon.

I agree that to me is an awful design. I also agree that I would much rather see a lion or maybe a Red Dragon as the British symbol than an eagle, save those that Luke mentioned - and they were definitely earned!

Other armies' that have used eagles are Germany, Austria and Russia both with double headed eagles, and I am sure there are more.

Andy, if that's true about the SAS requirements then the new Rangers are going to be starting off in the red is sounds to me. I have to stand with the SAS - you don't lower the standards so people can pass or lese you are always going to be realizing the lowest common denominator. Which would you rather have protecting your country!

I’ve just read The Rangers Regiment bird is apparently a Peregrine Falcon because it’s the most widespread bird of prey globally, apparently.

Their berets will also be grey as it’s the colour of the peregrines feathers and they will operate in the ‘grey zone’ whatever that is, sounds like Gravesend on an overcast day.

That design is nothing short of GHASTLY!. Looks to be some third world fly by night airline badge.
