I think you might have your work cut out doing this, I help collect every year so had the same idea but got a real surprise at the price some of them go for.

I think I'll be saving the attached photo from eBay for this year when the odd one or two complain about the suggested donation amount.

I live in hope. I have pins from 2010 onwards, and now have confirmation that there was a 2006 example. As well as the earlier undated examples with 10am & 2pm leaves.

I have 2011 onwards to trade.

The information I had from the RBL is: The official RBL metal enamelled pins started in 2010 a little smaller and slightly different than the next one in 2011 both undated. The larger dated pins started in 2012.

There are numerous dated pins available, but, I am told they are not RBL pins.

Just looked in your poppy album, my local Post Office may still have some of the pins in your image.

Earlier dated pins were sold via the RBL Poppy Shop at that time still located at Aylsford, but not distributed to PAO's which is why earlier dates were in smaller batchs.

First official pin was a small 'Poppy Stud' issued circa 2005 followed by a undated pin with 2 O'clock leaf in 2006 till 2010 and were available in singles via the shop or in bags of 50 at a discount for branch fundraising. [card 1]

The leaf changed to the 11 O'clock position in 2011 which was still only available via the shop in singles (only the undated pins were sold in bags of 50 and were till 2015) [card 2] (not complete)

From the 2012 Poppy Appeal PAO's & CFR's could order limited amounts of dated pins for sale in support of the Poppy Appeal and these were provided FOC instead of having to buy them via the Poppy Shop, with all profits banked via the Poppy Appeal [card 3]

From 2014 larger WW1 Centenary Pins were issued in support of the Poppy Appeal and will be till 2018 [card 4]

Which way the poppy pin will go in 2019 is not yet known.

These images will be added to Album.

I am a PAO and have received pins from 2011 from either the Poppy Shop or direct from Poppy Appeal in Aylsford.

Hi Jerry, Have just obtained 2006, 2007 & 2010 examples and still looking for 2008 & 2009 examples.

Undated pin with 2 O'clock leaf were sold via poppy shop till 2010, The one to look for is the 2005 small poppy stud. I have a spare 10 O'clock undated if you need one.

Thank you for all the above information. It is a shame that the RBL could not give me the same information when asked.

What is the meaning of PAO and CFR please.

PAO = Poppy Appeal Organiser

There is also a CPAC = County (later Community) Poppy Appeal Coordinator

who are volunteers

and

CFR = Community FundRaiser

who are paid who managed PAO's in the county assisted by the CPAC

I've just been and checked my undated pins after all this discussion, I hadn't cottoned on to the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock leaves.

I seem to have a 10 o'clock and an 11 o'clock one as well as the 2 o'clock one in my jacket.

Good to have the list of what's out there.

Michael

Mike_2817 13-01-17 07:07 PM

Opps, While they may look 10 O'clock, they are intended to represent 11 O'Clock

Shiny 13-01-17 08:22 PM

That's what I always thought so the 2 o'clock one seems odd, but I suppose they always say the correct way to wear it is with pride so where the leaf points is irrelevant really (outside of us looking for collectible variations).
