Ed, Question, is not the proper abbreviation for the Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps the RCACC? The abbreviation RCAC is for the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps? (Now obsolete.)

Never heard of RCACC. The red Maple Leaf sleeve badge shows RCAC. The RCAC for cadets pre-dates the RCAC for Armoured Corps.

No question that individual units are known as Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps #### (usually abbreviated to CC####) but as a whole I believe that they have been called Royal Canadian Army Cadets.

Understood, but back to the original question, if the official abbreviation for the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps is RCAC, and the army cadets is RCAC, there is room for a lot of confusion. I don't think the ptb would allow the same official abbreviation for two of Corps under the control of the DND.

An answer to this question. CARO 6100, October 3,1945. Official abbreviation for the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps is RC Armd C.

Good find. Nonetheless, I ahve always seen RCAC used in docs for Armd Corps. I guess that there was little chance for confusion as a member of the RCAC would not get a bravery decoration or driver training for a Sherman. Except for Summer camp there were few points of contact between the Army (Reg or Res) and the cadet system.

It is an awkward and cumbersome abbreviation, which in the scheme of things, would be very easy to ignore. There was no C Armd C, but there was CAC. It is easy to see how the transition to RCAC would be much more practicle.

I may be mistaken but the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps is under the DND, the Royal Canadian Cadet Corps is under the Army (or air or navy) cadet league of Canada?

The Royal Canadian Army Cadets, Royal Canadian Sea Cadets and Royal Canadian Air Cadets are youth groups, co-sponsored by the Army Cadet League/the Navy League/the Air Cadet League (as applicable) and the Canadian Armed forces (Army/Navy/Air Force). Since I am more familiar with the Cdn Air Cadet Organization, I can state that the British equivalent is the Air Training Corps and the US equivalent is the Civil Air Patrol Cadets. The stated intention is the promotion of "good citizenship" with each group getting to attempt to do some "recruiting" for the Regular or Reserve Forces. Cadets, however, are not in any way required to join the Forces. (Those, however, who do so after having completed certain Cadet Training Courses and having been a Cadet for at least 3 years, may find their entry to the Forces a little easier than those without said said Training.
