I didn't see it but my wife tells me that a couple of albums of formation signs were brought along - shown at c 2050 hrs - suggested value c £10,000. Did anyone see this? Mike

Yes Mike, did see them you can view it on BBC iPlayer .

Indeed, a very conservative estimate, based on £10 per badge, contained in what was described as Calico Printers Association "pattern" books.

The implication was that her father had collected them but there was also photographic evidence that he had served in the Far East during the war.

As always, the Antique Roadshow Militaria expert made sweeping generalisations without going into any great depth. It would have been interesting to know if the father had worked for or had some connection with the Calico Printers as it might have explained how he had acquired the pattern book.

My thoughts were that if the other experts were as knowledgeable in their fields as the one "valuing" the badges,then there is little point in the programme.

I thought his comments on the badges "some I have never seen before " and" they contain all the cloth badges worn in WW2" were most telling.

Well, he did say it was a "conservative" estimate, but, then a collector would still need to actually have the 10k to buy them in the first place, which would be a tall order for an average badge collector, it is certainly not a collection that should be broken up.

Interesting to see if it ends up on the market?

They all seemed to be printed badges so I wonder like High Wood if the originator had something to do with the process?

I wonder if they were saved from a skip (or it's 1950's equivalent) rather than collected as stated.
