Unknown naval buckle
 

This piece has lain unidentified for quite some time. I am tending towards German seamen ranks because of pebbling but it could be anything.

Made of steel, no markings

Interesting buckle... and my first thought was “a steel naval buckle?” Must have been drinks served at that equipment board meeting!

Something to do with 'Boys Brigade'?

I think these would have a B either side of anchor

Yes, I thought so too but I think they were steel, so maybe an early one or a variation?

Sea Cadets

1856 - An organisation was formed , called the Naval Lad's Brigade.

1910 - Became known as Navy League Boys' Naval Brigade.

1919 - Navy League Sea Cadet Corps.


Edit : Dates above may not be accurate :confused:, Australian War Memorial site has "Sennet hat : Boys' Naval Brigade, Victorian Navy" dated c1890's.

I can confirm that the design of the male 'tongue' is identical to mine. The only variation is the wear on the anchor stock

Boys Naval Bde is the chief contender, regardless of steel v brass
