North York Volunteers Button

2 Attachment(s)
Hi all. I acquired this button with some other bits. Searching for the North York Volunteers online has produced no results. I have found reference to the North York Rifles. Maybe this is the same unit? The manufacturer, Harding and Sons was certainly producing buttons between 1861 and 1865 for the American Civil War (a US site lists a Confederate Navy button by this maker at over 2500 USD). Any help information about this unit would be greatfully recieved
Many thanks.

Howard Ripley's Rifle Volunteer Buttons 1859-1908 identifies it as 2nd Admin. Bn. [then 2nd Corps] North Riding of Yorkshire Rifle Volunteers.
1860: 2nd Admin. Bn. [Malton].
1880: 2nd Corps [Scarborough].
1883: 2nd V.B. Princess of Wales's Own [Yorkshire Regt.].

David.

Hi David. Many thanks for the info. I think I will have to look at getting a copy of the Ripley book as although volunteer buttons are not the focus of my collection, I will pick them up if reasonably priced. All the best.
