Badge Cleaning Tips
2 Attachment(s)
I got this RNZAF badge a few days ago and it has a very heavy stain on the RHS.
I usually don't clean badges but wanted to remove this mark. I tried hot, soapy water, vinegar and then brasso to no avail. Does anyone have any tips how to remove this? Thanks, Bill |
Try a suede brush, the soft brass bristled one.

Brilliant, thanks Andy :)

Try lemon juice, cut the end off the lemon, then cut a slot into the lemon and push the badge into the slot, this will lift the stain but may leave you with a shiny badge.

Thanks Phil, will try that :) I'm sure it won't take long for the shine to wear off.

For that kind of spot, I let a dab of Brasso soak on it for awhile or a little WD40.
Then I polish it up good. As mentioned, the start of a fine patina will not be long in coming. I have badges that would once would have made an RSM proud; now a beautiful deep patina over a just a few years and without any ugly stains or potentially damaging corrosion such as that. CB |
Good thread and lots of very helpful ideas! Will the lemon also work on the green Verdigris that gets on a badge sometimes?

Gentlemen,
thank you so much for the tips. With a combination of a couple of them, this is the final result :) It won't take long for it to dull down a bit . Thanks again, Bill |
