Badge Cleaning Tips

2 Attachment(s)
I got this RNZAF badge a few days ago and it has a very heavy stain on the RHS.
I usually don't clean badges but wanted to remove this mark. I tried hot, soapy water, vinegar and then brasso to no avail.

Does anyone have any tips how to remove this?

Thanks, Bill

Try a suede brush, the soft brass bristled one.

Brilliant, thanks Andy :)

Try lemon juice, cut the end off the lemon, then cut a slot into the lemon and push the badge into the slot, this will lift the stain but may leave you with a shiny badge.

Thanks Phil, will try that :) I'm sure it won't take long for the shine to wear off.

For that kind of spot, I let a dab of Brasso soak on it for awhile or a little WD40.
Then I polish it up good. As mentioned, the start of a fine patina will not be long in coming. I have badges that would once would have made an RSM proud; now a beautiful deep patina over a just a few years and without any ugly stains or potentially damaging corrosion such as that.

Good thread and lots of very helpful ideas! Will the lemon also work on the green Verdigris that gets on a badge sometimes?

Gentlemen,

thank you so much for the tips. With a combination of a couple of them, this is the final result :)

It won't take long for it to dull down a bit .

Thanks again, Bill
