Hello all!

Was just gifted with this SS badge today. The guy had two of them, both exactly alike and both sealed in bags. Repro?

Hi Mark, what metal are they? What packets were they in? Regards Andrew

white metal, bags are clear plastic and heat sealed (heavy gauge, had to cut it with a knife to open it).

Mark~

I would say fake. As far as I know they were only made in silver for officers and anodised aluminium for ORs.
Cheers,
Alex

Another very crude copy, but, whilst the some of the regiment had seen service in the SADF and many others would go on to serve in the SADF, the regiment was not South African.

It's a well known fake.

Selous scouts badges were made in anodised aluminium for OR's and silver for officers.
Collar badges on OR's were never stamped. The original beret badge was unstamped (1st issue) while the 2nd issue beret badge was stamped. All Selous Scouts badges were made by Reuteler Mfg.

Many stampings on the officers badges. Seven in total in fact of which I won't show here.
Here is one though.
All lugs were brass with no exceptions.

At one stage I had three full sets of Selous Scouts officers badges.

Grateful for any remarks on these? Purchased in Harare, about 2001-2

Many thanks for any comments

William

Hi William,
The first badge is a second issue (explained above) OR's beret badge.
The second badge is a well known fake.

Another thing to look out for with Selous officer badges is the striations on the reverse. You will find these on the collar badges as well. The more patina the easier it is to see them.

Lugs must be brass.

I agree with Peter, it is interesting to note where and particularly, when, you actually bought the second badge.
